DG Slang

Editor's Note: various attempts have been made through the life of the DGML to establish some kind of slang and jargon proper to DG operatives, or discussion thereof. While all these attempts somehow failed, a few terms have entered the general vocabulary through spontaneous usage. These are presented here together with the original terms from the DG handbook, marked with (+).

  • 23 - number with mystical/conspiratorial relevance
  • A Cell - the coordinating cell of the Delta Green network
  • AI - artificial intelligence
  • The Albino Fleabag - game company renowned for its angst-ridden RPGs
  • Alphabet Soup - the US Govt. agencies and departments as a whole
  • Blobs - shoggoths
  • BoYS - Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign
  • Bronson (+) - member of MJ-12
  • Buzz - the MiB Mi-Go sidekick; any generic Mi-Go individual
  • Carl Stanford - "all the spells in the book" kind of wizard/cult-leader
  • Chasing Rabbits - to willingly interfere with MJ-12/NRO Delta activities
  • COUNTRY CLUB (+) - MJ-12 conference facility in Maryland, home of their databases
  • Cowboy Years - the years of Delta Green's unchecked , over-the-counter activity, before the agency was disbanded
  • Crossing the Border - exceding in the use of force in the course of an operation; the basic premise for a Rhino
  • A Day at the Races (+) - an operation used to train or evaluate a candidate.
  • DGML - Delta Green Mailing List. An eclectic mix of scoundrels and ne'erdowells who disseminate secrets, truths and half-truths concerning DG. :)
  • DO - Deep One
  • Duck Soup - cleanup operation
  • DYoSN - Dark-Young of Shub-Niggurath
  • EBE (+) - Extraterrestrial Biological Entity
  • ETs - the Elder Things
  • Fishy - connected with the Deep Ones
  • Five-O - the local police force
  • FUBAR - Fouled Up Beyond Repair
  • FunGuys - the Mi-Go, the Fungi from Yuggoth
  • Glove Cleaner - person coolly divulging snippets of Mythos facts to the unaware
  • Gnarly - Nyarlathotep (universal player usage)
  • GOO - Great Old One
  • Goth Chick - in the earlier days of the list, a nobody/anybody, average guy, a person not connected with the Delta Green universe
  • Green Box - 1) back-up equipment depot; 2) a place where DG operatives meet, safe-house; 3) (sometimes) the Delta Green Mailing List
  • Greys (+) - the EBEs that contacted MJ-12 in '78
  • Hangar 18 (+) - Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
  • HPL - H. P. Lovecraft
  • Hummer - Byakhee
  • Ice Cave - DGML on-line indexed archive; where this file was first posted
  • ICE CAVE (+) - xenobiology facility in Los Alamos, under MJ-12 control
  • Jerry's Choirboys - the Order of the Sword of St. Jerome
  • Jerry's Kids - the Order of the Sword of St. Jerome
  • Meatpile (n. or adj.) - Squick. Used to describe a sight that is so gristly that it overwhelms at least one of the senses instantly. Taken from the soon to be apocryphal story recounted on the list about the warehouse cooler full of 150 tons of rotten meat.
  • Men with Gauloises - postulated French counterpart to Delta Green
  • MiB - The Man in Black, DGML's role model
  • MIB (+) - member of MJ-12's DELTA group
  • Mr Squick - the DG list first mascotte; mentioned in connection with highly unpleasant/perverted practices
  • New Wave - deviated, GOO-worshipping faction among the Ghouls
  • A Night at the Opera (+) - a Delta Green operation
  • 9mm. Retirement Plan - forced demise of a DG agent or friendly who's turning into a liability; calibre can vary due to personal tastes
  • Norwegian - as an adjective, anything too public for its own good
  • NWI - New World Industries
  • OSSJ - Order of the Sword of St. Jerome
  • Paganistas - the gentlemen at Pagan Publishing
  • Playing Zeppo - the passive element in a cell, manning the mikes or acting as a backup
  • PP - Pagan Publishing
  • The Ragman - The King in Yellow
  • Rhino - A situation that turned violent and ugly for no discernible reason. Refers to a famous fax joke that circulated in LAPD/LASD circles soon after Darryl Gates authorized use of a military surplus armored vehicle as a battering ram. The first three highly publicized uses of the battering ram did not result in the capture of any narcotics, leading the anonymous jokester to propose using drug-addled rhinos in place of the armored vehicle
  • Saucerguy - member of Saucerwatch
  • Señor Sock - Y'golonak or, by obvious extension, any Cultist of Y.
  • Shub-Wankalot - any generic Mythos deity
  • Sky-Devils - the Mi-Go
  • Special K - (sometimes) Karotechia
  • The Speedwagon - NRO Delta
  • St. Jude - patron saint of Delta Green
  • The Toe-tapper - Nyarlathotep
  • Tome Rot - insanity induced by extensive perusal of Mythos tomes
  • Traditionalists - orthodox, Mordiggian-worshipping Ghouls
  • Wolves of Time - the Hounds of Tindalos
