Irreverence
I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die. John 11:25-26
Summary
Delta Green gets word through social media that there is a night club being run underneath a small town catholic church where the people there appear to have aged while they dance—until they die and other dancers move the bodies or dance on them so much they become mush under the feet.
This social media post is posted on NPC’s story and it gains some traction, but due to the time it was posted, people chalk it down to a Halloween gig and give it no thought; DG knows this is more sinister.
Handler’s Briefing
The person who posted it can be reached on social media DM and will answer questions the Agents have about what he saw (if he knows). He was unaffected because he did show up to the club on the 8th of October, he was there October 9th morning.
He stumbled upon the church nightclub because curiosity got the best of him— he heard rumors of secrets meetings taking place beneath the church while in high school, and having seen a nun who his grandmother knew quite well, he followed her through the church, towards the nunnery before taking a wrong turn into the basement and not being able to resist seeing what was down there.
The agents will meet at a location, get briefed and then go to the Green Box. The Green Box will be in the closest airport town to the church location. In the Green Box, the Agents will find: a bible, two revolvers, a sawed off shotgun with sigils on it, a couple sets of prayer beads, burner iPhones all of which are iPhone 6s with only phone calls and Instagram available; each Instagram account attached to the phone is fake and has an already created fake profile, rain boots, and a large flute-looking instrument that has the note “idiots only” attached.
The agents will then go to the church— it is a massive, stunning Catholic church, with a large plot of land surrounding it and a nunnery attached. It has the main church with the basement, a church library, a nunnery, and an infirmary wing attached to the nunnery.
Agents can investigate the locations to reveal different clues. Figuring out what they are dealing with is best researched in the library and clues can be found in each location in the church, talking to the nuns, and DMing the social media guy.
The Agents will eventually meet the Priest, he will seem normal and kind, with tanned skin and deep brown hair (much unlike what he expected to look like). He will ask why they are there and if he can pray for them. Agents will at some point find out that the Priest has died and that the one they saw is not human, but instead a clone-like person mimicking him. They will then figure out who they are dealing with and how they must defeat him. They will enter combat with the Priest at some point to end the night club goer’s trance, when that is at the Handler’s decision.
The Priest is actually being controlled by an outer god-Nyarlathotep, who is attempting resurrection on earth and enjoying human deception. The Agents will also need to get rid of the nightclub, perhaps also fighting the band, and cover up all of the deaths somehow (SAN Loss).
Church
- On the church bulletin board, there are posters advertising the night club, they contain propaganda to come on October 8th only.
- Otherwise and ordinary church, Agents can find out that what a normal set up would look like, there are things missing or out of place as if the priest does not know what he is doing
- “For it was on the eighth day that Jesus rose from the dead” somewhere in the church
- A picture of the Priest, he is pale with grey hair, a round pudgy face and pink cheeks
Church Basement Night Club
- The band is not human, they have similar flutes as the one in the Green Box
- The people are actively aging and it can be seen with enough alertness (SAN LOSS)
- When they die, the dancers around them become agitated at them, screaming things that are similar to the propaganda (SAN LOSS)
- There is a nun and she is one of the dancers, she looks very old
- A clock counting down from 8 days from 8pm October 8th to what appears to be eight days later that Saturday at 8pm
Church Library
- If they can narrow down how these people are entranced, through music that was listened to for 8 minutes on the 8th day of the month, to which they will die within 8 days as a sacrifice for resurrection— they eventually come across Nyarlathotep; they can also discover that the number eight is significant to Catholicism as it is the number of Resurrection, which Nyarlathotep is attempting to do using human life and by controlling the Priest of this church.
- They also can research the flutes, which shows they belong to Servitor of the Outer Gods, aka Idiot Flute Players
- Otherwise, the church library can reveal other things— how long the church has been there, how long the Father has been a priest, etc
Nunnery
- They can attempt speaking to the nuns or disguising as one and asking questions
- The nuns are all very worried about the Father, he is acting different and is not around as much as he used to be and engages in prayer more often
- He retires to his bed at a much earlier time, especially on Friday and Saturday nights
- More people are coming in to repent their sins and more often than not they either leave extremely happy or sobbing
- They can hear weird flutes at night, which tempts them out of the nunnery when they should be in bed; most ignore this.
- There was a mention that they only heard the flutes in eight minute intervals
- One nun has not been seen, and days before she was complaining of not being able to sleep due to the noise; this nun is about 20 years of age, she is new and still immature and that is what they have chalked it up to be for his not showing up.
Infirmary
- Reveals the corpse of the Priest and that he has been dead for weeks (SAN LOSS)
- Also has various items that can be used to burn the nightclub down (think molotov cocktails) or other things Handler deems relevant
Conclusion
Defeat Nyarlathotep’s Priest, however the Agents see fit. They should and can also defeat the band made of the Servitors of the Outer Gods, but not necessary as once Nyarlathotep is gone they also disappear.
Other Considerations
- The (SAN Loss) is just a suggestion, feel free to add/modify as Handler sees fit.
- How many band-members— Servitor of the Outer Gods, there are is up to the Handler depending on the number of Agents, but 3-4 members is a good starting point.
