The Red Cross Pocket Bible is an unnatural artefact developed by Karotechia as part of Aktion GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG. Whilst it appears on the surface to be nothing more than a pocket bible of a sort not uncommon on the front lines of World War II, ten pages in the Book of Revelations have been subtly altered to turn the Bible into a weapon of apocalyptic power. At least in theory.
History
As the Nazi Reich crumbled in the face of the armies of the Allies Karotechia was given a new set of orders by Hitler - end the world. Hitler, filled with a vengeful hatred, decided that if Germany was to be destroyed than all the world would swiftly follow. Karotechia was instructed to repeat the experiment that resulted in the destruction of the Naubadaum Castle on a global scale, unleashing the full power of Azathoth on the Earth. The 'calling formula' used by Karotechia in the ritual was transcribed into a set of fourteen Red Cross Pocket Bibles hidden in the phonetic pronunciation of ten pages of the Book of Revelations, and the bibles were distributed to Karotechia operatives. In a coordinated strike they would unleash Azathoth's power and bring about the apocalypse.
Unbeknownst to Karotechia however their translator, Ernst Tiesen, got cold feet at the last moment and sabotaged the plan. Tiesen subtly altered the pronunciation of the calling formula, rendering the entire ritual inert. This sabotage went unnoticed by Karotechia and Delta Green alike, who was not aware of the change until Tiesen was captured during Operation SUMMER BREEZE.
During the course of Operation LUNACY Delta Green located and destroyed twelve of the fourteen bibles, but was unable to locate the final two. Those two bibles are still somewhere in the world and with all those who knew about Tiesen's deception long since dead the possibility exists that the calling formula could easily be mistaken for the real thing.
The Calling Formula
The 'calling formula' is hidden within the bibles as a set of phonemes in the phonetic pronunciation of the book of Revelations. The calling formula is:
EH - NA - SO - SHA - YOG - SO - TA - EH - AZ - A - TO - TA - AZ - A - TO - TA - AZ - A - TO - TA - AZ - A - TO - TA
An agent with an Unnatural skill of 3% or above recognise the phonetics 'AZ-A-TO-TA' as a reference to the prehuman myths of the 'Daemon Prince Azathoth', supreme mover of the universe.
Since Tiesen's sabotage has rendered the calling formula inert the sound, study, speaking or use of the formula has no effect. Those wishing to use the formula are not likely to know this, however.
