Red Line
Here's the situation
Agents of Delta Green are contacted for immediate activation and are pulled from availability of a big city of your choosing with an underground subway system, i.e. New York City, at any time and year. Due to this rapid activation agents must drop what they are doing and go.
The Handler
The handler informs Agents this is a tail mission, they are to follow the target, report the target’s activities, eliminate the unnatural if any and above all cover it up. They are handed a photo of a middle-aged female, of your own description, as the target. They are informed that the target will be at, __ subway station, boarding the __line, 5 hours from now. (Note: Players should be on this train with her. They are free to split up.) The handler will offer no further details when pushed for more information other than this is a high priority target and urgent. The handler will provide keys to a Delta Green box at a location of your choice.
The Truth
The Agents’ handler, is the handler for the target and her team. The previous team was sent in to investigate a blood cult operating in the city and the baby she is carrying is her former team member. How the target is revealed, if at all, as a Delta Green agent is up to you.
How it goes down
Agents will find the woman standing on the platform of an arriving train. On a successful Search roll they will notice she is carrying a 9-month-old infant. On a failed roll they notice she is carrying something in her arms but can’t tell what it is. She will board the train and take a seat. The players will be able to make it on if they choose. The train departs soon after.
Players that are near the woman now see she is cradling a sleeping baby. The woman has a shell-shocked expression, is tired and stares at the floor. Her clothing is dirty, burnt and has traces of dried blood. She will interact with the Agents if approached.
At some point the baby begins to move and cry. The woman’s focus snaps to the baby as she grasps the amulet around her neck and begins to chant. With an Unnatural check an Agent can determine that the language is that of Aklo to the melody of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Flame charred sigils begin to form on the baby and her. A successful Occult check determines the sigils signify fire.
If the woman is interrupted, and she must be, i.e. by a drunkard or someone asking for spare change, the baby will immediately explode and the target woman is killed in the process. Agents in the immediate area of the explosion can make an Athletics check to dodge the gore and blood. NPCs and Agents who witness the explosion suffer SAN Loss 1/1D4 for violence.
After the shock wears off, a bloody mass coalesces into a pulsating creature four times the baby's original size. SAN Loss 1/1D6 for unnatural. Go immediately to initiative order.
Those in contact with the blood from the explosion, have 1D4 rounds, before they begin attacking others in a fit of rage. (NPCs can share 1D4 rounds) Agents in contact with the blood make a POW x 5 test every round to suppress the rage. On a success, Agents act as normal. On a failure the rage grows within and they attack at random regardless, for that turn. At 0 rounds they lose control and begin attacking others near them, including other Agents. Cleaning the blood off gains 1 additional round but has no other effect. As more blood is shed from the violence, it is drawn toward Blood Mass in a fleshy wet web like manner. Blood Mass contorts in a grotesque way sprouting multiple inhuman and human appendages. It will continue to grow, attaching to people throughout the train. Blood Mass will Scream, emitting a massive burst of red energy that disables all electronic devices including the train.
The Solution:
To destroy the creature, Agents must burn every trace of Blood Mass and the people affected by its blood and/or bond. Agents suffer SAN Loss for burning a train full of innocent people. You decide how to handle the loss. (see Agent’s Handbook for inflicting violence on the innocent)
It can also be destroyed by an Agent wearing the amulet and singing the AKLO version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.(Suggestion: A bloody note on the dead Agent could hint at this) Upon successful completion of the song, without interruption, the creature is destroyed rendering remaining blood inert and those affected return to normal. Flame charred sigils are forever burned into the acting Agent’s body, and they make a SAN test. They will suffer SAN Loss 1D20 on a success. On a failure they are transformed into a 9-month-old baby with the amulet around their neck. They have become the born again Blood Mass, as the last blood cry of the creature echoes through their soul.
If the amulet is destroyed before the ritual is performed Blood Mass will be locked to this plane and must be burned away along with those it tainted. Destroying it after the ritual is completed and the Agent passes the SAN test is a win ish? for Delta Green. If it is destroyed after the Agent has turned into an infant it's a loss for everyone involved.
