This story from the BBC might be worth our time.

"A BBC investigation estimates that around $23bn (£11.75bn) may have
been lost, stolen or just not properly accounted for in Iraq.
The BBC's Panorama programme has used US and Iraqi government sources
to research how much some private contractors have profited from the
conflict and rebuilding.
A US gagging order is preventing discussion of the allegations.
The order applies to 70 court cases against some of the top US companies."
We've talked on list about DG agents, or DG itself, operating a
private military company in Iraq. If nothing else, this would seem an
excellent source of funds for either DG or MJ12. Obviously, a PMC
would also be a great training ground for future agents who are
predisposed to direct action although of course they might need a
training class on forensics.
Nothing is stopping a mythos cult from getting their paws on some of
that cash as well. With the involvement of Tiger Transit is
Vietnam-era dirty tricks, I'd expect they at least would be involved
in Iraq in some way.

Or Afghanistan. If you follow the Tcho-Tcho background in DG:Countdown,
which connects them to the Tochoans of Central Asia, that means they
have come connection directly to the long-ago history of Afghanistan.
This is not to say that there are Tcho-Tcho tribes remaining in the
hills of Afghanistan (there's been a lot of movement through that
country), but that there might be some artifacts or ritual centers
left behind when the Tcho-Tcho Tochoans settled there.
