The United States Army is the land-warfare branch of the United States Military. It has its roots in the American Revolutionary 'Continental Army' and was formally established on June 3rd 1784, though it considers itself the successor to the Continental Army and so claims its birthday as June 14th 1775. The US Army is split between full-time and part-time services made up of professional soldiers and reservists respectively. It is headquartered in The Pentagon. It owes allegiance to the Commander-in-Chief, the President, and is commanded day to day by the Chief of Staff of the Army, who sits on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It has a total strength of ~1,200,000 and a budget of ~$244.8 Billion USD.
