The United States Navy is the maritime-warfare branch of the United States Military. It has its origins in the Continental Navy of the American Revolutionary War and was established on March 27th 1794. The Navy maintains both a full-time and reserve element. It is headquartered in The Pentagon. It owes its allegiance to the Commander-in-Chief, the President, and is commanded day-to-day by the Chief of Naval Operations. The United States Navy is a subcomponent of the Department of the Navy, along with the United States Marine Corps. It is the single largest fleet in the world. It has a total strength of ~450,000 uniformed personnel alongside 200,000 civilian contractors, manning 480 total ships. It has a budget of ~$142.2 Billion USD.
